Vince Gill played competitive golf at the tender age of 10; he was breaking 80 by the time he was in junior high school. In addition to starting the Vinny in 1993, he used to hold the Vince Gill Celebrity Golf Tournament; one beneficiary of that event was Special Care in Oklahoma City, a facility that helps the disabled. For those efforts, the PGA gave Gill its Distinguished Service Award in 2003.Gill, who posted a sizzling 62 in a member-guest event, told Golf Digest, “Musicians and golfers understand each other. We know what it takes to have to perform. We know there is a lot of alone time.”
% Has hosted The Vinny, the Vince Gill Pro-Celebrity golf tournament, for 13 years and has raised over $3 million for junior golf programs throughout Tennessee.
% In 2001, the home of The First Tee program in Shelby Park was named in his honor – The VinnyLinks.
% In 2003 he received the PGA of America’s highest honor, the Distinguished Service Award.
% Has hosted the T.J. Martell Golf Tournament benefiting cancer and leukemia research, various events benefiting BelmontUniversity and numerous other causes.
